A great finish with the pair that fought out the Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) – Super Cool and Fiveandahalfstar - having another great battle. Super Cool was a distant fifth, chasing a strong pace, before moving up strongly passing the 400m. He set off after his arch rival passing the 300m, getting up to win by a short head in fast time (2:00.93). Fiveandahalfstar was a distant third at the 800m, made ground rounding the turn, took the lead at the 300m and fought strongly all the way to the post for a gutsy second. Tanby was last in the 12-horse field, about 15 lengths from the leader at the 800m. He made considerable ground from the turn to finish third, beaten four lengths, putting up a strong staying performance for an excellent third. His stablemate and favourite Green Moon – last year’s Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) winner was a distant fourth to the 600m, being suited by the solid pace, and seemed to have every chance in finishing fourth. Glass Harmonium was allowed to run along in front by Steven Arnold and he was responsible for a very solid tempo (first 1400m 1:25.09) holding on quite well under the circumstances for fifth while Mr Moet was near last to the turn, then made a lot of ground for a very good sixth. *ANZ
