Buffering, after a lengthy wait finally broke through recently for his first Group One win and yesterday added his second at that level, only two weeks later. He went immediately to the lead and got away with a moderate first 200 metres (24.74) before picking up the pace from the 800m point. He grabbed a good break passing the 600m and fought back gamely to win by three quarters of a length, sprinting home his final 800m in a fast 45.62 being perfectly rated by Damian Browne. Shamexpress was ridden patiently, remaining behind runners in about tenth spot to the 400m. Damien Oliver got him into the clear shortly afterwards, where he was giving the leader about five lengths. He then came with a strong, late run, for a very good second, clocking 45.27 for his last 800m. Moment Of Change was a handy third most of the way to the 200m point and kept fighting on to take the minor placing, beaten two and half lengths. Fontelina had a good run, just off the pace, in about eighth place. He got through on the rails side at the 300m and battled on nicely for fourth. Temple Of Boom came with a late run on the grandstand side, coming from last in the 13-horse field at the 600m mark, to finish fifth. The favourite Lucky Nine ($3.40) chased the leader Buffering most of the way to the 200m but weakened from that point to finish four and a half lengths sixth. *ANZ
