A well deserved Group One win for Snitzerland who matched motors with Bernabeu in the early stages before taking a clear lead at the 400m. Avdulla nursed the talented mare in the lead and asked her to quicken at the 250m. She was tiring a little late on but held off the challenge of Shamexpress on her outside. Shamexpress was good in defeat. He travelled sweetly on the back of the leaders and quickened up well, only finding the winner, who had first run on him, slightly the better. He has returned in good order and should have a good autumn. Samaready was sound in defeat. She was left for a bit of early pace and was shuffled back between runners under hard riding in the middle stages of the race. To her credit she responded and picked up many lengths in the closing stages to be closest at the finish without ever looking a winning chance. She should come on for the run and may be best placed back around a bend. Pago Rock ran out of his skin for fourth. He came from second last and closed strongly closer to the grandstand rail. He will be suited placed back in a handicap. Unpretentious was sound. He raced on the inside of Shamexpress in the run. He was left a little flat footed when the pace quickened at the 300m, but he rallied and picked up a bit of ground before tiring a little on the line. He will come on for the run. The well-backed Bernabeu showed good early speed to lead but was one of the first off the bridle and tired to finish last. A post race veterinary examination failed to find any abnormalities. *ANZ
