Lankan Rupee made it five wins in succession, including two Group Ones, with another brilliant win. He began smartly and was eased to travel just behind the leaders, travelling strongly. Chad Schofield asked him for his effort nearing the 300m and he showed a great turn of foot to dash clear. He then went on to score by two and a quarter lengths for a most impressive win. Spirit Of Boom has now been placed 14 times in Group class and has won once, in last year’s Caulfield Sprint (Gr 2, 1100m). He was ridden patiently as usual and was just past midfield to the 400m. He got a nice split passing the 300m and ran on well for a good second, without ever looking likely to trouble the winner. Knoydart was back about ninth near the rails, looked for an inside run at the 300m and gradually worked through to take third, beaten just over three lengths. Last year’s winner Shamexpress raced just behind the leaders before going towards the rails at the 400m. He briefly looked a threat but he only battled from that point for (four and quarter lengths) fourth. Flamberge showed good pace being close to the lead to the 200m and held on for fifth while the favourite Samaready ($4) followed the winner, her stablemate Lankan Rupee, before easing out to make a bid at the 300m. But she only battled from that point to finish sixth, beaten five and half lengths after seeming to have every chance. *ANZ
