Luke Nolen took French-bred Lidari straight to the lead. He was then able to set a very steady tempo (first 1000m 64.11) before quickening nearing the home turn. He then fought back well in the sprint home (last 600m 33.99) to score nicely by a length. The Irish-bred Foundry travelled nicely outside the leader most of the way. He tried hard to run the winner down in the straight, but was unsuited by the sprint-home tactics and did well in finishing second. The favourite Sertorius was sixth, one off the rails and was left flat-footed when the pace increased at the home turn. He then made ground late to take third, without ever looking a winning prospect in the straight, being disadvantaged by the slow early speed. Sweet As Bro was last in the eight-horse field to the turn and did well to make ground for fourth in the sprint-home while Desert Jeuney (fifth) and Stipulate (sixth) were also unsuited by the lack of early pace. *ANZ
