Merion enjoyed a lovely run in fifth position one for the fence just on the back of a solid tempo set by Turfane. He cornered three and four wide in the clear and was wound up staying on gamely under hard riding. He looked a sitting shot in front when Chivalry loomed up but to his credit he fought on gamely, holding on to score by a nose. A sound effort. Chivalry was good in defeat. He settled down in third last position one off the fence with a trail. He travelled strongly into the race being taken to the outside on cornering and then nursed into the race in the middle of the track. He looked certain to pick up the leaders at the 200m but could only close at the one pace to just go under. A sound effort second up and one that indicates that a step up in trip may be appreciated. Zebulon put in the eye catching effort come with a good late run from last. He followed the winner into the race and peeled off his back at the 250m. He finished on gamely and grabbed third right on the line despite laying in a little. Moonovermanhattan was sound in defeat. He enjoyed a nice run behind the leader before coming between runners to momentarily grab the front at the 200m. He tired late and was piped for third right on the line. Divan (10th) raced wide without cover and tired in the straight. A post race veterinary examination found mucus in his airways.
