Two-year-old colt Prompt Return backed-up his recent smart debut win at Bendigo in a 2YO Maiden (900m) to impressively take out this Group Three race. He was quickly away and led on the rails side of the track, travelling strongly. He went clear at the 300m and was not threatened from that point to win by two lengths in smart time (57.40). Old Trieste also raced on the rails side, just behind the leaders there, before improving to third at the 300m. He then battled on well for a good second, finding the winner a bit too good. The Coolmore-raced Sailing By raced on the Grandstand side, settling back behind that leading group in about tenth place. She switched to the centre of the track nearing the 200m and made up good ground for an most encouraging third on debut. Jacqueric was back in 11th place in the Grandstand side group. He then raced a bit greenly at the 200m and took a moment to wind-up but responded well from the 100m and a late-closing (4 lengths) fourth in a very promising debut. The favourite Bantam led on the Grandstand side until passing the 400m but gradually faded from there to finish fifth, beaten just over four lengths
