Don’t Doubt Mamma was smartly away from barrier two and then eased to settle in sixth place, one off the rails, travelling well behind a reasonable pace (first 800m 48.82). She moved up nicely on straightening, challenged strongly at the 200m, hit the front at the 100m and fought back for a good win. It was also a very good ride by Dwayne Dunn. Egypt settled at the tail of the seven-horse field, tracked up (deep) from the 300m, got to fifth at the 100m and then ran on really well for second, putting up a smart effort, stepping up in class here. WA filly Perfect Reflection suffered her first defeat in six starts, having her first run in Melbourne since joining the Darren Weir stable. She settled in fifth place on the rails, was shuffled back nearing the home turn, eased across heels on passing the 200m and came with a late run to grab third. Jameka had a good run in fourth place, one out and one back. She moved up well, briefly looking the winner at the 300m and then kept battling on soundly for (1.1 lengths) fourth at her first run since winning the VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) in November. Sacred Eye went to the front and led the field until the nearing the 100m before finishing (2.1 lengths) fifth, also at her first run since racing in the VRC Oaks.
