Australian Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Palentino, having his third run this preparation, returned to Flemington over the same distance to score his second Group One win in ten starts. He settled back in ninth place on the rails behind a steady tempo (first 1000m 62.04). He went deeper on straightening, got a split at the 300m, challenged at the 200m and then finished too well to score impressively. Black Heart Bart had an ideal trip in fourth place, moved up nicely rounding the home turn and looked the winner when he went to the front at the 300m but he had no answer to the winner over the latter stages, holding on second in yet another most honest effort. He Or She raced in seventh place, got to fourth at the 400m and then battled on well to take the minor placing. Jacquinot Bay was a handy fifth to the home turn and held on for (4 lengths) fourth. Our Ivanhowe made ground from eighth, in the sprint home, to finish (4.1 lengths) fifth in a nice first up effort while Prince Of Penzance caught the eye in running on from near last for (4.2 lengths) sixth.
