The James Cummings-trained colt Prized Icon ran on strongly to win his second Group One victory in 13 starts to date in a solid staying performance. He settled in eighth place, one off the rails, behind a good tempo. He went deep nearing the home turn, sprinted quickly to hit the front at the 200m and then drew clear to score impressively, running the 2500m out well. The favourite Secret Elixir was nicely placed in fifth spot, but going keenly in stages. He angled into clear running (deep) at the home turn before challenging and kept fighting well for second, although having no chance with the winner over the final stages. Inference went back from his outside barrier (16), settled in last place before getting along the rails from the 800m. He was held up badly on two occasions for clear running on straightening before getting a late split. He then finished well to take a most unlucky third. So Si Bon raced back in 12th place, got between runners at the home turn, went to fifth at the 200m and then battled well for (4 lengths) fourth. Swear moved up in the early stages and settled in fourth place, one off the rails. He improved nicely nearing the home turn, hit the front on straightening but he then battled on over the closing stages for (4.3 lengths) fifth, apparently being tested by the 2500m journey.
