The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained mare Flippant settled nicely in fourth place, close to the leaders, behind a reasonable tempo (first 600m 35.43) before taking the lead at the 200m. She then drew clear and went on to score a very good win, her fifth in 11 starts to date. Top weight (58.5kg) Faatinah held a narrow lead, racing closer to the Grandstand side, was headed at the 200m and then kept battling on well for sound second, conceding 4kg to the winner. Supreme Effort raced back in the field, on the Grandstand side, tracked the eventual winner (Flippant) through at the 200m, went to third shortly afterwards and battled on to hold that position to the post. The favourite Ravi was about ninth, in the group on the Grandstand side, was under riding from the 200m and steadily made ground for (3.7 lengths) fifth, without threatening.
