The $101 chance Lasqueti Spirit put up a very smart effort with a strong front-running display to score in first win in ten starts in impressive fashion in taking out this feature Group One race. She was third in the early stages but soon worked to the lead nearing the 1800m. She then set up a big lead, stretching the field out over many lengths and maintained her advantage in a very well rated and bold ride by Brenton Avdulla on a tough staying filly to score clearly. Harlow Glow was a distant ninth, improved to be sixth (some 12 lengths from the leader) at the 600m. She was distant fourth at the 150m and kept making good ground (without threatening the winner) to take a very good second in a smart staying effort. Eleonora was distant third to the 600m, momentarily looked a danger when she went into second place at the 300m but she just battled over the closing stages to hold the minor placing. The favourite Yankee Rose settled at the tail of the 15-horse field but was about 25 lengths from the bold running leader at the 1000m. She briefly made some ground at the 600m but then faded to finish (20 lengths) 14th, not backing up after her Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) placing and also being tested by the strongly run 2500m here.
