The favourite De Little Engine was an impressive winner. He settled well in fifth place on the rails, improved (between runners) in a packing field at the 600m, angled into clear running on turning for home, took the lead at the 300m and then raced away under his top weight (58.5kg) to score a most decisive win, running the 3200m out strongly. Mujadale went to the front, set quite a reasonable tempo, was headed at the 300m and then held on well for a good second. Like A Carousel raced in seventh place, one off the rails, before making a wide move at the 800m, going to third (out deep) at the home turn. He then kept fighting on to take the minor placing after putting up a solid effort.
