The progressive five-year-old gelding Rich Charm is now the winner of five of his last six starts. Advancing from winning a Listed race at Caulfield on 18 October to taking out this Group Two event in good style. He settled in tenth place, behind a solid pace (first 600m 34.72) in the centre of the field before behind shuffled back to second last at the 200m. He then switched deeper and came with a strong late run to grab a decisive one length victory at the post. Missrock raced in 12th place before improving, closer to the rails side, from the 300m. She got a split and looked the winner when she hit the lead at the 100m but could not hold off the late-closing winner to take a good second. The Monstar was a handy third, just behind the leader (Bons Away), challenged at the 200m and then held on well to take the minor placing while Ravi was just behind the leading group, about seventh, and fought on along the rails side for (3 lengths) fourth.
