The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Pinot staged a strong staying effort in taking out this Group One fillies’ classic. After a delay at the barriers, she missed the start, worked in the early stages before settling outside the leader (Rimraam). The pace then slowed noticeably from the 1200m but lifted quickly when challengers came nearing the home turn. She got to the front at the 300m and fought back gamely for a very good win, outstaying her opposition. Bring Me Roses raced in ninth place on the rails, improved behind runners at the home turn, switched deeper and into clear running at the 300m and then ran on really well for a very good second. Hiyaam travelled in seventh place, one off the rails, improved (deep) rounding the home turn and responded to riding very well in the closing stages to take third in a most promising staying effort at only her sixth start. Luvaluva settled back in ninth place, before Blake Shinn made an early move at the 800m due to the slow pace at that stage of the race. She challenged (widest of all) at the home turn, maintained a strong bid until the 200m then battled on well for (2.9 lengths) fourth. Miss Admiration, who had not run a place in her only six starts to date, travelled well in sixth place on the rails, got along the inner to be in a challenging position at the 300m and then fought surprising well for a very good (3 lengths) fifth. The favourite Aloisia was unsettled after casting a plate prior to the start and went forward in the early stages before easing to get a good trip in fourth place (one out and one back), tracking the eventual winner. She moved up nearing the home tur but was under pressure at the 300m and then battled on for (3.2 lengths) sixth, looking tested by the 2500m trip.
