The Godolphin-raced filly Jorda, winner of the Gimcrack Stakes (Listed, 1000m) at Randwick on debut in October but has run reasonably well without winning in four runs since resuming, returned to form with a smart win here, apparently appreciated the Flemington straight course. She raced in last place in the group of four racing close to the rails on the Flat side, got along the inner to take a clear lead on passing the 200m and then fought back really well to score a smart win. The David Pfieffer-trained filly I Am Excited raced midfield in the larger group near the Grandstand rails. She burst clear of those runners, sticking to the outside rail, and rallied strongly over the closing stages to miss narrowly for a very good second. Smart Coupe raced close to the leader of the small group on the Flat side. She got to a clear second at the 150m and then held on well for third. The favourite Demerara led the field on the Grandstand side until reaching the 200m and then held on to hold fourth, beaten five lengths.
