Shadwell-raced Almoonqith won quite impressively. James McDonald steered him across from a difficult barrier (14) to settle in tenth place. He improved well (wide with cover) from the 1000m, switched out rounding the home turn, hit the front shortly after straightening and then went on to score a very good win, running the 2400m out strongly. Dandino settled just beyond midfield before tracking up behind the eventual winner from the 1000m. He moved up wide out at the home turn, briefly looked at threat at the 200m and then fought well for a good second. UK-trained stayer Manndawi settled in seventh place on the rails from his good barrier (3) but was shuffled back nearing the home turn. He finally got into the clear at the 200m and then ran on to take third, putting up a sound effort at his Australian debut. Maygrove was about eighth, improved between runners rounding the home turn and kept battling on in the straight for a sound fourth. Top weight (59kg), UK-trained Quest For More was trapped deep in fourth place from his wide barrier (15) and continued to work before racing outside the leader (Kapour) from the 1200m. He then tired after turning for home to finish (8.4 lengths) 16th after a difficult trip at his first Australian start.
