The John Meagher-trained filly Savanna Amour scored a very smart first up win. . She began well and settled in fourth place, between runners, before getting a split shortly after straightening. She then challenged strongly at the 200m and fought gamely to score in well in a photo. The New Zealand-trained colt Heroic Valour worked in the early stages from barrier ten before racing outside the leader (Crafty Cop). He challenged at the home turn, got to the front at the 200m and then battled on strongly for a very good second at his Australian debut after working on the pace most of the way. Godolphin’s Tessera settled in eighth place, between runners, and was held up for clear running on turning for home. When he finally got clear, he caught the eye with his late-closing third, looking unlucky. Attention raced in fifth place, caught deep without cover from his wide barrier (11). He challenged at the home turn and then held on well for (1.3 lengths) fourth after a difficult trip.
