The consistent Chris Waller-trained mare Madam Rouge took her record to five wins and four placings in 17 starts in winning this $1m race. She settled nicely in seventh place on the rails from her inside barrier (1), tracked up well nearing the home turn, eased into clear running at the 200m and then came with a strong late bid to grab victory on the post. It was also a good ride by James McDonald. Isaurian raced in eighth place, one off the rails, commenced a well-timed run at the 300m, hit the front at the 100m but could not then hold off the late-closing winner for (head) second. Morrissy settled near the tail of the field, fanned deep on straightening and then ran on well to take the minor placing. The favourite Champagne Cuddles settled midfield and was eased out of the race after going amiss nearing the 600m.
