In a keenly-contested finish, Outback Barbie did best to score, staging a solid performance, her fourth win, with six placings in 19 starts. She raced back in eighth place until nearing the home turn before running on strongly over the latter stages to grab victory by short neck. River Racer raced in ninth place, on the rails, switched deeper at the 300m and kept running on well to take second. Ef Troop settled in fifth spot, but wide, moved up at the home turn, moved up (under riding) at the 300m and continued to make ground for a close up third with Chapter And Verse (0.6 lengths) fourth after hitting the front at the 100m.
