Ron Quinton-trained colt Pale Ale put up a promising effort in winning here, resuming after his debut third in a Two-YearOld Maiden (1250m) at Canterbury on 10 June. He settled about seventh, between runners, in a packed field, following a good tempo. He got a split on straightening, hit the front at the 150m and went on to win quite comfortably, dashing home in quick time (33.53).
