Godolphin-raced gelding Gaulois scored a good win, his second at stakes level and his sixth win in 27 starts. He began well and after being fourth early on he settled in a good spot, fifth one off the rails. Tim Clark moved him up nearing the home turn, he took the lead on passing the 200m and then fought back to score quite well by a half-length. The British-bred Supernova raced back in last place in the ten-horse field, went widest of all at the home turn and kept running on in good style for second in a promising first-up effort and his fourth Australian start since joining the Team Hawkes stable. Love Shack Baby was smartly away and then tracked the leader (La Chica Bella). He challenged on turning for home and then held on to gain third in a photo after appearing to have had every chance.
