The well performed seven-year-old Youthful Jack has had a lean run since his successful trip to Tasmania last year, returning yesterday to win his second Thomas Lyon Stakes (Listed, 1400m). He was eased at the start and settled seventh between runners. Robert Thompson switched him out nearing the home turn. He was giving the leader about four lengths at the 200m but ran on gamely to hit the lead 50m from home and went on to win by three quarters length. The Patrick Payne-trained Cellarmaster had a perfect trip behind the leader (Rahveel) and took a narrow lead at the 200m but couldn’t hold off the late-closing winner in the final stages. My Temptation was handy three wide with cover before going wide at the home turn and challenge at the 200m. She kept fighting on the take the minor placing, finishing just in front of Banca Mo, who missed the start and came from midfield on the rails to finish fourth. Under The Eiffel had a good run about sixth one off the rails, got into the clear mid-stretch and had every chance, finishing 1.8 lengths fifth. *ANZ
