Cranbourne-trained mare Nautical scored a good firstup win, albeit narrowly. She settled back about eighth, between runners, and remained there until nearing the home turn. She got a split shortly after straightening, went to fourth at the 200m and kept running on well to grab victory on the post. Favourite I Love It travelled particularly well in fifth place, with cover, moved up strongly coming to the home turn, looked the winner when she dashed to the front at the 200m and was only overhauled in the last few strides to finish a close second. Erin’s Element raced back in 12th place on the rails, angled between runners shortly after turning for home, got to fourth at the 100m and fought gamely to hold third in a photo. Mossbeat raced beyond midfield, wide with cover, went deep at the home turn and made a lot of ground to just miss third in a photo, putting up a smart effort in finishing fourth.
