Scott Brunton-trained mare Life On The Wire, winner of the 2018 Vamos Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) at Launceston, scored a very smart first-up win here. Having her first start since racing at Caulfield in September, she was trapped deep outside the leading group after starting from a wide barrier (10). She switched towards the outside rail on turning for home (looking for better going), hit the front at the 200m and then went on to score quite impressively. Twitchy Frank raced just behind the leaders, improved on straightening and kept fighting on well to dead-heat for second with Speedonova, who had been back in last place at the home turn before running on well in the straight. The favourite, the Victorian-trained mare Miss Norway, shared the lead until the home turn but faded from there for (6.4 lengths) ninth in the affected conditions.
