The favourite Geegees Goldengirl backed-up her Strutt Stakes (Listed, 2100m) win at Hobart on 9 February to score a very in good style. She was quickly away from barrier two and after leading in the early stages, eased to enjoy a good trip in fourth place. She improved three wide from the 600m, took the lead shortly after straightening and drew away (in the centre of the track) to win clearly, running the 2100m out well. Shayana went back from her wide barrier (10) and was second last in the 13-horse field to the 600m. She went wide on turning for home and caught the eye, running on late for a good second, beaten a length and a quarter. The Patrick Payne-trained Tralee Chorus settled just beyond midfield, moved up (wide) from the 1600m to be a handy fifth (wide with cover) at the 600m. She then kept battling on in the straight to dead-heat for third in a solid staying effort. Monopole had a nice trip, midfield on the rails, got a split rounding the home turn and went through to be fourth at the 200m and then fought on well to dead-heat for third.
