Runner-up in the 2014 Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) Bondeiger is now racing in good form and followed recent wins in easier classes at Moonee Valley and Morphettville Parks to record his third successive win by taking out this Group Three event. He was ridden quietly by Regan Bayliss and settled near the tail of the 16-horse field before improving nicely between runners from the 700m to take the lead on straightening. He then battled strongly to win well, running the 2400m out solidly. Fastnet Dragon also settled well back (wide), improved (deep) with a smart run from the 700m to hit the front (but wide out) rounding the home turn. He then kept fighting gamely for second after a difficult trip. The recent Hobart Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) winner Pretty Punk traveled well, racing midfield on the rails, improved well, going to fourth at the home turn and battled on nicely to take the minor placing. The winner’s stablemate Andrea Mantegna raced in tenth place, made a quick move from the 700m, got to second at the home turn before battling on quite well for (1.9 lengths) fourth.
