Thermal Current jumped as well as any from his inside draw but he was outsped by Mirage, Jabali and Mirt The Flirt in the first few hundred metres and settled fourth on the fence. Precious Gem was locked away on the fence before the short straight but got on to Thermal Current’s heels as the winning split presented itself and once past the leader switched to the rails and made a worthwhile run at the winner, going under in a fighting finish.
