Kushadasi settled in a nice spot, seventh on the rails from his good barrier (3). He travelled well for Steven Arnold all the way and improved on the inside from the 700m. He went to third nearing the home turn, challenged at the 200m and fought gamely to score a last stride win by the narrowest of margins. The filly Scratchy Bottom settled well in tenth place on the rails. Dominic Tourneur keep on the the rails as the field fanned deeper from the 800m and she continued to improve, going to fourth approaching the home turn. She hit the lead on straightening and was only caught right on the post for second, beaten a nose, in a gutsy performance. Best Case was eighth, between runners, improved nicely (wide) approaching the home turn, put in a good run at the 200m and kept battling on strongly for a good third, beaten only half a length. Gamblin’ Guru was ridden patiently and remained in about 12th place to the 800m. He improved between runners at the 600m and then fanned wide rounding the home turn. He put in a strong claim at the 200m and kept fighting on well for a good fourth, beaten three quarters of a length. The $101 chance Lord Athenaeum was last in the 16-horse field at the 800m. He then went to the rails from that point and continued to make ground, battling on quite well in the straight to finish (4.2 lengths) fifth. The favourite, the recent VRC St Leger (Listed, 2800m) winner Order Of The Sun led the field a quite a good pace. He held the lead until nearing the home turn and then went deep (looking for better going) on turning for home, but he weakened from that point to finish (5.6 lengths) sixth, again looking suspect on rain-affected tracks. *ANZ
