The French-raced, British-bred import Ominous followed his first Australian win at this track on 26 April with an easy victory in this Listed event. He was handy in the early stages but was shuffled back to race in eighth place, between runners. He commenced a run near the 600m, switched wide at the home turn, took the lead at the 200m and drew away for an easy three and a quarter lengths win, running the 2500m out strongly. Zabeelionaire was a handy second or third most of the way to the 600m. He moved up well to take the lead approaching the turn. He then held on in the straight to take second, having no chance with the winner. Vima was a handy fifth on the rails, went to second at the home turn and battled on quite well for third. Distillation was handy most of the way and held on for fourth while the favoured runners Le Roi ($3.50 fav) and Escado ($4.20 2nd fav) both raced below their best and just plugged on in the straight to finish sixth and seventh respectively. *ANZ
