lllustrious Lad was a little slow out from barrier three and settled second last although not far away from the lead. Still second last passing the 600m, he moved off the rail and approaching the last corner moved out even wider which meant being widest once they straightened. Once balanced, he gathered in the leaders and took over with less a hundred to run, easily holding on to the finish by three quarters of a length. Shaf had the perfect run, one out and one back, approaching the last corner he was then eased out three wide to challenge. He held the lead at the 200m, however, not for long, trying to go with the winner but was outstayed. Brimarvi Prince tracked Shaf into the home straight, was blocked half way down the straight by the winner and then ran home quite well to grab third.
