The New Zealand-bred Savvy Nature scored a very good win. The lightly raced three-year-old travelled well about eighth on the rails. He was under riding to improve near the 600m, switched out on straightening and then showed a good turn of foot to hit the lead at the 200m. He then drew clear for a decisive win running the 1600m out well. He looks a good prospect for the Spring Champion Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m). The promising filly Wordplay had a good trip about sixth one off the rails before fanning wide rounding the home turn. She challenged at the 200m and then kept fighting on nicely for a good second at only her third race start. Happy Clapper was a handy third to the turn. He briefly hit the lead at the 250m and then kept battling on well for a sound third. Hooked was fifth one off the rails to the turn, however he was very one-paced in the straight and just kept battling on to take fourth. Vilanova was back about ninth most of the way to the 600m but only kept plugging on in the straight to finish fifth, beaten just under four lengths. The favourite Fuerza ($3.90) led the field into the straight but disappointed and dropped out to finish (11 lengths) tenth. *ANZ
