An all-imports’ finish. The British-bred Disclaimer travelled well in seventh place before improving between runners nearing the turn. He got a nice split on straightening, took the lead at the 300m and he then drew away over the closing stages to score clearly by almost two lengths. The USA import Brigantin was back about ninth at the 600m, got a run through at the 200m and kept making ground, without threatening the winner, to grab second nearing the post. The Irish-bred Wish Come True raced in second place to the home turn, challenged at the 300m and kept battling on for third after seeming to have every chance. Travolta led the field at quite a reasonable pace, holding the lead until the 300m before finishing fourth, beaten two lengths. The favourite Multilateral was handily placed most of the way. He was fifth at the 600m, put in a brief run nearing the turn but then finished only fairly to run (four lengths) seventh.
