Watermans Bay was eased from his wide barrier (16) and settled just past midfield, three wide with cover. He switched out to be the widest runner rounding the home turn, put in a good run half-way down the straight and came with a strong late bid to grab a narrow but good win. The favourite Amorino settled in a nice spot, sixth one off the rails. He eased out on straightening, then came with a well-timed run passing the 200m and kept running on well, but just found the late closing winner a little too strong battling on well for a good second. Red Hot Sax went forward from his wide barrier (15) and showed good pace to cross to the lead at the 800m. He fought back gamely in the straight and was only headed in the closing stages for a good (half-length) third after his early efforts. *ANZ
