Royal Descent became a good Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) prospect with a strong win here. She was about sixth one off the rails to the 600m, looked for a run in the centre on straightening, then got a great split to take the lead a the 200m. She went to the post strongly with her top weight (59kg) to win impressively. Express Power was one out and one back, came up three wide at the turn and challenged at the 200m, fighting on well for a good second. Unimpeachable was eighth one off the rails, moved up wide passing the 600m and made the home turn four wide. She challenged at the 200m but then just kept battling on to take third after seeming to have every chance. Sail came from ninth on the rails, making up late ground, to take fourth. The favourite Queenstown led to the home turn but disappointed in the straight tiring for eighth. *ANZ
