Classy colt Zoustar was most impressive. He was a little slow to move and settled second last in the eight-horse field. He moved up strongly three wide approaching the home turn, dashed to the lead passing the 200m and then raced away to score by just over four lengths. It was his fifth win in seven starts, is in brilliant form and should be a force at the Melbourne Spring Carnival. Barbed raced in fifth place one off the rails to the turn. He was held up for a run on straightening, switched across heels at the 200m and ran on in good style for second, putting up another good effort at only his third start. He has a lot of potential. Open Book raced behind the leader to the 300m and battled on quite well for a sound third. Mr Jackman was caught three wide without cover outside the leading pair and did well to hold on for fourth while Va Pensiero travelled outside the leader to the turn, took a narrow lead at the 200m but then weakened for fifth, beaten five and a half lengths. *ANZ
