Boban was eased from his wide barrier (10) and settled third last in the 16-horse field. He was checked nearing the 600m where he was giving the leader at least 12 lengths. He moved up wide with cover rounding the home turn, put in a quick run in the centre of the track from the 250m mark, and then ran on well to grab a last-stride win. It was a very good effort. Streama had a good trip, fifth one off the rails most of the way to the turn. She moved up at the 300m, got to a narrow lead at the 100m, and was only caught in the last few strides to finish second. Her stablemate Toydini settled just past midfield, he improved nicely (wide, without cover) from the 600m, challenged at the 100m and then fought gamely for a close third. Spurtonic was fourth on the rails, got a clear run through passing the 250m and kept fighting on for a sound fourth. Malavio was midfield early on, after starting from a wide barrier (15). He worked across the field to be third, one off the rails, at the 1000m. He then held on well after those early efforts for a sound fifth. Ecuador showed good pace to lead, set a solid tempo (first 1000m in 58.78), and only tired from the 100m for a very good (one length) sixth. *ANZ
