Dances On Stars scored a very good first-up win. The Gerald Ryan-trained four-year-old began well but was eased in the early stages to settle last in the seven-horse field. He was giving the leader about five lengths as he improved passing the 600m, switched between runners on straightening and was full of running but blocked at the 300m. He finally got into the clear at the 100m and came with a late run to score, going away, by a short neck. It was a smart effort. Hidden Warrior was handily placed and was outside the leader Zaratone nearing the 600m after racing a little keenly in stages. He challenged at the 200m, took a narrow lead shortly afterwards and was only to be caught nearing the post for a close second. Dee’n’Gee had a good trip, fifth on the rails and went through on the rails on straightening. He got to a narrow lead at the 150m and kept fighting on for a close third. Prettyfamous (fourth) and Master Harry (fifth) battled on, close-up, just behind the placegetters while the favourite Heart Testa ($2.25) was a little slowly away from the barrier, was last early before recovering along the rails to be a handy third. He then took a slender lead at the 200m before fighting on for a length and a quarter sixth.
