The consistent Gai Waterhouse-trained stayer Travolta ($2.35 fav) put up a gutsy effort to score. He raced in second place most of the way, following a slow tempo, before getting through on the rails to share the lead rounding the home turn. He then battled gamely all the way down the straight to score by a short head from the runner-up whom he conceded 5kgs. The Tony McEvoy-prepared Big Memory led and set a slow pace in the mid-stages. He was joined in front nearing the turn and then stuck gamely to his task in the straight for a sound second. Brigantin ($3.50) was fourth most of the way to the 600m. He moved up wide rounding the home turn and kept fighting on under his big weight (59kg), in the sprint home for a good third, beaten three lengths. Midsummer Sun was fifth in the six-horse field most of the way to the turn and got up for fourth nearing the post, beating I’m Imposing who weakened for fifth. *ANZ
