Hallowed Crown did not show much early pace and settled in seventh place in the ten-horse field. He improved nicely along the rails nearing the home turn, going to third on turning for home. He switched wide (into better going) to take the lead passing the 200m and then went on to score comfortably by a length and a quarter, handling the Heavy 9 track well. He looks suited to further and is a promising colt now winning both of his two starts. Washington Heights was ridden quietly and remained at the tail of the field to the home turn. He went to the centre on turning for home and kept running home in good style for a most promising second on debut. Klammer began well and raced in second place to the turn, took the lead at the 300m and held on quite well for third. The favourite Donelle was a handy third to the turn, challenged at the 300m but just battled from that point for three and a half lengths fourth, possibly being tested in the Heavy 9 going. The recent Wellington Boot (1100m) winner I Am Snippety showed her usual pace to lead the field but unfortunately broke down in the early part of the straight and was eased out of the event. *ANZ
