Irish import The Offer, a noted wet-tracker, started favourite and made it three wins from three starts in Heavy 9 going to win easily. He was ridden patiently by Tommy Berry and remained in sixth place to the 600m but was suddenly under pressure as the pace eventually increased nearing the home turn. He switched deep on straightening and then ran on strongly for a decisive win, looking a strong for next Saturday’s Sydney Cup (Gr 1, 3200m), especially if it’s again rain-affected going. Tremec had a good trip, third on the rails before moving through to take the lead on turning for home. He then fought back well for a sound second. Hippopus raced outside the leader, went to the front nearing the home turn and kept battling on in the straight for third. Second favourite, top weight (59kg) Sertorius raced in fourth place, one out and one back. He looked a threat as he improved coming to the turn but he just battled under his weight in the heavy conditions in the straight to finish four and a quarter lengths fourth. *ANZ
