Ninth Legion began well from his inside barrier (1) and then eased to settle in fifth place on the rails, following a strong pace. James McDonald kept him to the inside rounding the home turn, got along the rails to hit the lead on passing the 200m. He then went on to score a comfortable first-up win, scoring by almost two lengths and in fast time (1:21.45). Favourite That’s A Good Idea went to the lead and ran along at a quick tempo (first 800m 45.61). He held the lead until the 200m, then weakened, but still had enough in hand to hold on forsecond. Haussmann was back in second last place in the ten-horse field to the home turn. He then came with a late run to grab third in the last few strides. Mighty Lucky was sixth, one off the rails before putting in a run half-way down the straight. He got to third at the 150m and then fought on, just missing the minor placing in a photo to finish (2.1 lengths) fourth.
