Chiaramonte stepped up in grade and did a great job in winning this Listed event. He was ridden vigorously from his outside barrier (14) to lead and despite a hectic early pace (first 600m 34.66) the Redoute’s Choice colt fought back gamely to win by a half neck. It was a very promising effort. Brave Soul was urged to hold her spot from barrier one and settled about seventh on the rails. She was held up for a run mid-stretch, getting clear at the 150m and then ran on nicely for good second, appearing a little unlucky. Heart Testa was fifth in the centre to the turn and then had some trouble getting clear until passing the 200m, then running on quite well for a sound third. Meidung, stablemate of the winner, did not show much early pace and settled twelfth on the rails. She stuck to the inside and got through well in the straight, until being blocked in the closing stages for an eyecatching fourth. It was only her second run from a spell and should be suited over longer distances during the carnival. Lady Of Harrods was about sixth, three wide with cover, eased out at the 200m and ran on quite well for fifth. Favoured runners She’s A Fox (13th) was midfield to the turn but disappointed while Ichihara (12th) was trapped wide, worked three wide without cover in a quick early pace, and tired in the straight after those efforts. *ANZ
