Julienas worked early to race outside the leader (Pelicano). He applied pressure to that horse from the 700m, taking the lead on straightening and went to the post strongly, despite those efforts and his top weight (59kg), to score impressively. It was an excellent staying effort and consolidated his claims for the upcoming Sydney Cup (Gr 1, 3200m). Permit was second last in the nine-horse field to the 600m, before switching across heels at the 300m and running on resolutely to grab second at the post. Dance With Her had a good trip third on the rails to the 600m and kept plugging on well to take the minor placing after having every chance. Coliseo was last to the 600m and made ground late for fourth. Kaypers was sixth one off the rails, fanned wide at the home turn and battled on well for a close fifth. *ANZ
