Coup Ay Tee was ridden patiently as usual and was allowed to drift back after the start to settle seventh on the rails. He travelled nicely despite the moderate pace but was blocked for a run after turning for home. He switched to the rails passing the 200m and darted between runners at the 100m to grab a good half length win. He certainly has a good turn of foot. French import Bayrir began quite well from his inside barrier (1) and settled third on the rails. He was blocked early in the straight but got a run at the 200m and took a narrow lead at the 100m only to be caught on the post. It was a good first-up effort with this top weight (59kg) and he was probably unsuited by the sprint home tactics of the race plus he will also appreciate a longer journey. Kinnersley began smartly and led the field, setting a moderate pace from the mid-stages. He fought back well when challenged, putting up a much improved effort for third. Pretty Pins was second last in the 10-horse field to the 700m. She improved out wide from the 600m and continued to run home nicely in the straight, being disadvantaged by the sprint home tempo (leaders running last 600m in 34.84). The stayer Less Is More was last on the rails to the turn, eventually getting along the rails from the 200m to make good ground for fifth. The favourite Under The Sun was eased from his good barrier (2) and was third early, before moving up three wide without cover from the 1000m to the turn. He put in a run at the 200m but that was short-lived and he then kept battling on to finish (two lengths) seventh. *ANZ
