Driefontein began smartly and then eased to enjoy a good trip behind the leader (Ichihara). She moved up to challenge passing the 300m, took the lead at the 200m then fought back well for a good first-up win. Peron was slowly away and was last in the 13-horse field in the early stages. She improved along the rails to be a distant eighth at the 600m. She stuck to the inside and kept making ground and was an eye-catching, late-closing second at the post. Arctic Flight was well away and raced in third place most of the way. She kept fighting on nicely in the straight to get the minor placing, in a sound first-up run. Bennetta was a distant sixth on the rails at the 600m, she switched to the centre of the track on straightening and continued to make ground for a good first-up fourth beaten just under a length and a half. Flying Snitzel was fourth to the turn and held on quite well in the straight for fifth while Ichihara led clearly to the 300m but tired in the closing stages for sixth beaten just over two lengths. *ANZ
