A top class ride by Hugh Bowman proved the difference with the talented daughter of Dubawi (Dubai Millennium), Catkins grabbing the gallant Steps In Time in the concluding stages of the race. Catkins was away smartly from her inside barrier before settling on the back of the leader Steps In Time who was allowed to take her time to cross from the outside by Jim Cassidy. Approaching the 500m, Bowman switched his mount to the outside of the leader pressuring her on cornering. Both horses drifted to the centre of the course and battled it out the whole way down the straight, with Catkins prevailing in the concluding stages. Steps In Time was sound in defeat, she ran along in front and battled on very gamely the whole way down the straight to just be headed right on the line. White Sage enjoyed a good run in the race, fourth on the fence. She followed Catkins in the run but could not pick up the leaders in the straight, battling on gamely but simply finding them too good. Sharnee Rose came from second last to work home nicely for fourth while Streama was a little rusty first up, she battled on late for fifth but never threatened. *ANZ
