Sidestep did not have much early pace and settled second last in the eight-horse field. He remained there to the 600m before moving up (wide out) at the turn. He put in a quick run in the centre of the track at the 300m, challenged at the 100m and fought well under his top weight (59kg) to grab a narrow but good win at the post. The filly Bound For Earth was fifth on the rails, improved along the rails rounding the home turn and got to a narrow lead passing the 200m. She then fought gamely for a good second, beaten only half a head. Northern Glory was back in sixth place on the rails to the turn. She looked for a run in the centre at the 200m, eased across heels at the 100m and ran on nicely in the closing stages for a good first-up third. Cosmic Endeavour ($3.75 fav) led to the home turn, eased wider on straightening and held on fairly well when headed at the 150m to take fourth, beaten a length and a half. Fast ‘n’ Rocking was last to the turn, went wide on turning for home and ran on fairly well for fifth, beaten just under two lengths. *ANZ
