Bachman was steadied as he dipped in the heavy going from his inside barrier (1) by Nash Rawiller and he settled seventh on the rails. He raced a little unkindly when the pace slacked in the mid-stages. But picked up coming to the turn, went to the outside at the 300m and then produced a strong finishing effort to win, going away, by two and a quarter lengths. He ran the 1400m out well and seems suited to further still. Scratch Me Lucky raced midfield, between runners and got a nice run through nearing the home turn. He went to the inside to challenge passing the 300m and then fought on nicely for second, having no chance with the late-closing winner. Veuvelicious raced just past midfield, wide with cover. She went wider at the turn and was under pressure on straightening. But she responded well in the latter stages and finished well to take third. She is a promising filly who should appreciate stepping up in distance. Khrysler was a handy fourth, just behind the leading trio coming to the turn. He put in a good run to challenge at the 200m and then ran on for fourth, beaten three lengths. Darley-raced colt Careless was near last to the home turn, went to the inside at the 200m and kept making ground for a sound three and a half lengths fifth, looking suited to further. *ANZ
