Junoob began well and was handily placed in third spot, one off the rails. He moved up well (wide) at the turn but was under pressure in the conditions half-way down the straight. He then lifted well in the closing stages and finished a little too nicely to score by a short neck. He is a quality stayer who continues to progress. Hippopus was sixth one off the rails, improved (wide out) approaching the home turn and kept battling on well for second. It was only his second run from a spell and his effort today indicated a return to his earlier good form. Lucky Lago was ridden patiently by Glen Boss and raced in second last place one off the rails to the turn. She switched out wide on straightening and made good ground for an encouraging third. The favourite Entirely Platinum raced outside the leader (Julienas) before moving up to nearing the home turn. He took the lead on straightening and looked the winner at the 200m. But was headed passing the 50m and then held on for fourth, beaten a length. Moriarty travelled comfortably in seventh place on the rails. He improved between runners on turning for home and looked a threat at the 150m but only battled in the heavy conditions from that point to finish two and a half lengths fifth. *ANZ
